Five signs, one name, and a Saturday deadline. This issue carries everything the program needs to leave the workshop and stand on a road: the finished artwork in two editions, the rulings behind every choice, the full cost picture, where each sign stands, and how the operation survives night and rain.
The address is avenlost.pet — no hyphen — displayed everywhere as www.AvenLost.pet. The reasoning held up from three directions. People who see a sign copy what's printed, so they succeed with any spelling. People who hear the name — a rescuer telling a trapper, a neighbor over a fence — type what they heard, and speech carries no hyphen. Only the unhyphenated name catches both rivers. The capitals are free: web addresses ignore case, so the sign can show the word-joints while the real address stays one plain word. And "www." stays, because it is the one prefix every generation reads as this is a website.
Figures are honest ranges from current market pricing; FedEx Office confirms exact numbers in their quote — the spec sheet demands it itemized. Nothing is ordered until it is paid for.
| ITEM | LOW | HIGH |
|---|---|---|
| Domain — avenlost.pet, 1 yr (Vercel, confirmed) | $19.99 | $19.99 |
| 2 × anchor signs — aluminum ACM 24×36, two-sided | $240 | $360 |
| 3 × rotation signs — PVC/corrugated 24×36, two-sided | $135 | $420 |
| Matte UV laminate, 5 signs (if not included) | $0 | $150 |
| Flyer run (updated file — new address) | $30 | $45 |
| 3M engineer-grade reflective tape, 2 rolls | $30 | $50 |
| Mounting — 2 U-posts, stainless screws/washers, UV zip ties | $45 | $60 |
| PROGRAM TOTAL | ≈ $500 | ≈ $1,105 |
The spread is the substrate choice on the three rotation signs: heavy corrugated board sits at the low end, 6mm PVC at the high end. The spec sheet asks FedEx to quote both, plus any five-sign break. Optional: $19.99 more also holds aven-lost.pet (the hyphen twin) as a silent redirect so even a misremembered dash still finds him.
The origin. Last seen at the 8B pathway; every resident, cleaner, and contractor in the complex passes this frontage. Permission is asked through the community manager, never assumed.
Deep in the Callaway ditch corridor. A private fence or yard with the owner's blessing — asked, never assumed. It faces the through-traffic; sighting specifics stay off public posts.
Bayou margin. Dawn anglers and dog-walkers see every animal that moves along the water line — they are the ghost network this sign recruits. Post at the entrance approach on adjacent private frontage, facing arriving cars.
The ditch-spine artery. The culvert line (Cherry / Boat Race / SR22) is the highway a corridor cat actually travels; this sign faces the humans who drive above it daily.
Every trapper, TNR volunteer, and rescue in the county funnels through this building — and a local rescue keeps the lost-pet board inside. Ask them to host the sign on their frontage; the flyer goes on the board the same visit.
Placement law, plainly: signs on private property, fences, and windows — with the owner's OK — stay up. Signs in public right-of-way get pulled by code enforcement in Bay County. Angle each face slightly toward oncoming headlights.
A driver’s eyes ride at about 3¾ feet. Our sign’s bottom edge stands at six — so at 150 feet out, the look-up angle is barely 1.4°, dead-center in the windshield. At 40 mph that’s a 2.6-second window, and a five-element sign reads in under three. That’s the whole design, drawn.
Night: after dark, color stops working — headlight reflection is everything. FedEx is asked directly whether they can print on or apply retroreflective media; if their center doesn't stock it, two rolls of 3M engineer-grade tape border all five signs for about $40 and every pair of headlights lights them up.
Rain: matte UV laminate on every sign; the two aluminum anchors live outside all season without complaint. The three boards rotate — and when a named storm approaches, the boards come inside and only the through-bolted aluminum rides it out. Check every post after each big blow.
Today (Wed): buy the domain — Vercel, avenlost.pet, $19.99 — and send the FedEx email (draft v5 is ready; attach the three files listed below).
Thu–Fri: the rep answers with the itemized quote. Approve and pay — that lands the whole order inside the Saturday line. Ask them to run the flyers and boards first so posting starts while the aluminum is in production.
Fri–Sat: flyers and boards typically finish in 1–2 business days — first boards go up at Posts 2 and 5.
Early next week: aluminum anchors (typically 3–5 business days) mount at Horizon South and Letohatchee×Beulah. Reflective tape borders go on the same day.
